About me

Birmingham's Premier Magician

Performing since 1992. The Magic City Magician®, Birmingham, since 2008.

I’m Matt Wilson, a magician in Birmingham, Alabama, and I’ve been performing for 34 years. I offer three kinds of magic: a family show that children and adults can enjoy together, close-up magic performed among your guests, and a stand-up show for adult and corporate audiences.

Whatever the setting, my approach is the same. I keep things relaxed, conversational, and funny. I involve people in ways that feel natural, think on my feet, and make the most of the unexpected moments that happen with a live audience. Whether I’m performing at a company dinner or a seventh birthday party, I want your guests to feel like the magic is happening with them, not simply in front of them.

I include travel within about 60 miles of Birmingham, and beyond that I still travel, with the travel cost added to the quote, up to roughly three hours away.

I create the stories people share. What will yours be?

Magician services

Magic Designed For Your Event

The best magic isn’t something your guests just watch. It’s something they become part of. I shape each performance around the occasion, and most bookings fall into one of these three styles.

Family Magician

Best forBirthday parties · School assemblies · Church events · Country clubs

This is an interactive show written for a room with both kids and adults. The children get involved, the adults have plenty to laugh at, and everyone gets to enjoy the show together.

Close-Up & Strolling Magic

Best forCocktail hours · Holiday parties · Receptions · Corporate gatherings

I move through the room and perform just inches away, often with the magic happening in your guests’ own hands. There is no stage or formal start time, so it works well during a cocktail hour or reception and gives people an easy reason to gather and talk.

Corporate Events & Parties

Best forHoliday parties · Team building · After-dinner shows

This is a stand-up show of mentalism and magic designed to follow dinner or fill a scheduled entertainment slot. It is interactive, funny, and clean, with plenty of opportunities for the audience to take part.

Questions

Short answers to what people ask most before booking.

All questions

How much does a magician cost?

Bookings start at $300, including travel within about 60 miles of Birmingham. I also travel beyond that area, with the additional travel included in your quote. The final price depends on the type of event, the length of the performance, and the size of the audience. I’ll work with your budget, so tell me about your event and I’ll send you a quote.

How long is a performance?

A stand-up show lasts an hour. If a shorter show fits your party better, that’s no problem. Close-up or strolling magic runs from one to three hours, depending on the event.

Do you perform for kids?

Yes. I’ve performed for children at birthday parties, schools, libraries, McWane Science Center, and Children’s of Alabama. I’m comfortable managing a room full of young people without leaving the parents and grandparents out of the fun.

Do you perform for adults?

Yes. I’ve performed at adult birthday parties, engagement parties, dinner parties, wedding receptions, and corporate events. For an adult birthday, I can perform close-up magic as guests arrive, present a stand-up show after dinner, or combine the two.

What is a Close-up Magician?

A close-up magician performs among the guests using cards, coins, and other small objects. The magic happens only inches away, often in the guests’ own hands. It’s a natural fit while people are arriving, mingling, or sitting between courses.

Three steps

How It Works

You deal with me from start to finish. The person who answers your first email is also the person who arrives to perform.

  1. Send the details

Tell me the date, the venue, and roughly who will be in the room. That is usually enough for me to recommend a stage show, strolling magic, or a combination of the two.

  2. Get a plan

I answer my own messages, usually the same day. I will explain what I recommend, how long it runs, what I need from the room, and what it costs.

  3. Hold the date

Once you decide to book, I will reserve the date for you. The agreement and deposit are handled by email, and I will work with you or the venue on the sound, timing, and performance area.
